Clove (Laung) are known to be the aromatic flower buds of a tree in the family called Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum. They are known to be native to the Maluku Islands present in Indonesia and are commonly used as a spice. The Clove (Laung) are used to give aroma and flavor to dishes and it is also used for the preparation of ayurvedic medicines.
These Clove (Laung) are used as Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine, and western herbalism and dentistry where the essential oils are all used as an anodyne (painkiller) for dental emergencies. It is used as a carminative, for increased hydrochloric acid present in the stomach and for improving peristalsis. It is also said to be a natural anthelmintic.
